Fear of Technological Advancements in Cars
One constant fear people have is that robots will take over and/or wipe out humans. Not only is this fear completely irrational, its quite honestly a pathetic excuse as to why technology hasn't been able to expand with certain aspects of cars. Like self driving, AI infused cars, or even just having computers in cars at all is always "scary" to people. I'm however not saying we need self driving cars but i am saying being afraid of them because they'll "try and kill humans" is just absolutely ridiculous. They may be not ready for mass production but that doesn't mean they wont be soon. Tesla's that drive on the road now have self driving features. However it can mess up as it is a recent technological development.
In the past couple years tesla has been urged to work on their semi-autonomous features repeatedly by groups like the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). However Tesla has never responded to these urges even though there have been multiple accidents that could have been avoided had the driver not been taking advantage of the self driving features. In my opinion companies should take more time to test out these vehicles before putting them up for sale. If they know their is faults in a system then they should pull back fix the issues and then continue making/selling them. If more work goes into absolutely perfecting these systems before release and there is little to nothing wrong with it, than nobody can use the excuses of the systems "trying to kill people". If people see and/or hear that chances of things going wrong are seriously low then more people will buy them which fuels innovation and increases funding for these systems. If you can build up a reputable name for your company, own up to mistakes if you make them, run more tests, make it as perfect as possible than people will be less likely to say bad things about it or try and hurt your business. Therefore decrease or end the popularity of outrageous evil robot theories.
This is what the government tells the masses until it's too late...and robots control our minds. Heck, maybe it's already happened and it's the robots that are making you think they aren't dangerous...
ReplyDeleteTrue, but what if we just dump some water on the robots, they can't really overtake us if they're broken now can they. Just bust out the old super soaker and we'll be able to over through the AI robots in the matter of seconds
ReplyDeleteThis is an amazing thought, but since they're so smart they'll probably make themselves waterproof and then boom you've lost the country to Siri and R2-D2. good though but it doesn't work.
Deletei think we should just stick with gasoline and deiseal cars and trucks because the more computerized they get the less you can do your own repairs the more complicated they become and the more you'll have to pay to get it fixed and self driving cars will not work until all cars are self driving and the roads would have to be redone because they have too many in perfections for the computers to be able to register what is happening.
ReplyDeleteWhat are some of the issues the technology is having? Do you think those kinds of issues would ever be worked out?
ReplyDeleteI think having completely AI cars wouldn't be a fantastic idea. Yeah, it'd be cool but no AI can with 100% accuracy predict the movements and cause and effect of human controlled vehicles. Do you think that there will be technology to completely counteract this or will it always be a risk to AI driven cars.
